After researching the breed for several months, Maria (living in Rhode
Island at the time) purchased her first Chinese Shar-Pei in 1989, when
visiting her folks in Idaho (where she grew up), a classic fawn
horsecoat named "Lady Von Wrinkle". This is where the name "Von
Wrinkles" was incorporated as her "kennel" name. Lady was purchased
as a "show" quality puppy, so Maria found a local AKC all breed club in
RI, and signed up for confirmation show handling classes. In 1991 Lady
produced her first litter of puppies, and Maria had her first experience
whelping and raising and finding homes for these peibies. Breeding and
showing has been a learning process and work of love ever since then.
After a divorce in 1991, Maria relocated to Utah with her young son
Trent Krupa. In 1992, after whelping Lady's second litter, Maria met and
married Tim Harris, from Michigan, who also had four children from his
first marriage. Then this large combined family set up shop in
Ortonville, Michigan. From here, over the next several years, our
shar-pei family grew in numbers. Their lives were then blessed with the
unexpected addition of their daughter "Mindy" born summer of 97. Four
months later Tim took a job transfer to sunny So. California, where we
have lived and raised our dogs ever since. Today, most of
Tim's older children, still live in Michigan, Trent is
attending college in RI, (and Mindy who is 11 years old, has the house
all to herself, here in sunny Southern California). (Maria
recently graduated and is a Registered Nurse now) ,
and enjoys competing in (showing her dogs) once or twice a month at
local AKC shows. Tim works as a Western Region Manager in the
construction industry. We now own three horses which we enjoy riding
in our spare time. We carefully plan only one to two litters per year,
with the goal of producing the best quality Shar-Pei possible, both in
health and temperament.
