It was the summer of 1989, and I was pushing my 2 yr. old son in his stroller at the Rhode Island Mall.  I noticed a crowd of people up ahead, gathered around something, saying things like, “Oh, how adorable”, “I want to pet him”, “I have never seen anything so unusual". As I pressed closer, I got my first glimpse of what would soon win my heart, share my home, and consume my spare time. It was the most curious looking creature I had ever laid eyes on… a wrinkled puppy… a Chinese Shar-Pei.
